Sometimes, when trying to send an email (eg. a Candidate mailshot, or Spec Sends) an error message can appear: 

Error Saving Email: Email Message Is Too Long; maximum 10000 chars, reduce by 8073.

Users will sometimes receive this error message indicating that the email message is too long:

Home > Contacts > Select a View > Click into a Candidate record > Related tab > Activities > New Activity > Email 
 

How 

If you have completed a manual word count, for example in Microsoft Word, and the number of characters shows that it's lower than 10,000, then the text has most likely been copied & pasted from another source or application, which also copies any hidden HTML content which is not visible. The Mercury Email Editor is in effect recognising all of the copied text, including any HTML content and any other rich text formatting, which, when all added up, increases the overall character count and breaches the limit. 

To resolve this, first copy & paste the full text into Notepad, and then from Notepad, into Mercury's Email Editor. Basic Notepad does not support any hidden HTML content or other types of extended formatting, so it will be removed when pasting content from another source into Notepad, and then into the Email Editor.
