What

This is a new record type available with our v34 release in July 2025. You can now group specific Compliance to a particular Worker Type rather than creating multiple agreements. Rather than having duplicates of agreements, Worker Types work in a more granular level to build up compliance from different sources. Primary Worker Type can be made mandatory as part of Placement Validation. Worker types are not client specific (as opposed to Agreements).

Where

Worker Types are created within the Admin area of Mercury, and are assigned to Placement Records within the Recruit area.

FAQ

Add a new Worker Type

Within the Admin area, go to the Worker Type section, and click + New

NOTE: Only specific Users can create Worker Types. They need the 'Mercury - Can create or update Worker Types' security role.

There are 4 fields in the New Worker Type Record - Name and Owner are required. Code is optional but is must be unique, otherwise this will produce an error.

Add Compliance

Click Add Existing Compliance Criteria to open up the Lookup window. You can search for records by typing in the textbox, or click the magnifying glass. Multiple Compliance records can be added from here. When finished, click Add

Remove Compliance

Select the blue tick-box of the Compliance group, then click Remove

Add Worker Type section visibility within Placement records

Within the Support area, go to the Configuration section, and select the ENABLE_WORKERTYPES_VISIBILITY file. Check that within the Value - string field, that all three fields are "true"

NOTE: Only Admins can view or edit Configuration records.

Then within the Recruit area, add Worker Types to a Placement from the Basic Info tab. There can be multiple worker types associated with a Placement but one will be the Primary Worker Type, all others will be Additional Worker Types

1 Add a Primary Worker Type by clicking the magnifying glass
2 Add Additional Worker Types by selecting the kebab menu (⁝).

All compliance related to the selected Worker Type(s) can then be viewed from the Compliance tab of the Placement.

FAQ

What happens if Compliance is added or removed from a Worker Type record after it's already been assigned to Placements?

This change will cascade to all associated live Placements. If the Placement is completed, cancelled, or terminated (i.e. closed), there will be no change.

What if I have already validated a piece of evidence and then it is removed from the Worker Type?

It will not be removed from the Placement. Evidence that is both Invalid and has a Confirmation Status of Outstanding will be removed.

Can one Placement have more than one Worker Type?

Yes. A Placement may need more than one Worker Type assigned to it, depending on what Compliance is needed.

What happens if a Placement is extended?

What Compliance copies over to an extended Placement depends on the Compliance Extension Rule for each Compliance Criteria within a Worker Type.

  • As-Is: All information is extended and visible on new placement.
  • To-Do: Confirmation status is set to outstanding. 'Checked By', 'Checked On', 'Valid From' and 'Valid To' are set to empty/blank. 'Validity' is set invalid.
  • Not-Applicable: Will not be extended to the new placement.

Additionally:

  • Compliance that have been deactivated in the source placement are extended to new placement, but will not show in grid.  These can be reactivated from the compliance status tab on a Placement.
  • Any compliance criterion that is duplicated between an agreement and a worker type, will determine on which one was added first which will take precedence (the second will not be extended).

What happens if I clone a Placement?

Any associated Worker Types are automatically copied to the new Placement.

What happens if I convert a Placement from Temp/Contract to Permanent?

Any associated Worker Types are automatically copied to the new permanent Placement. Any extension rules will no longer apply.

Why are some Compliance in the Worker Type record, but are missing from the Placement record?

Depending on the use settings for a Compliance Criterion, they may not show up in the Placement. See Understanding Compliance Criterions for additional information.

Initially, check that within the Worker Type (set up in the Admin area), the Compliance Criteria has:

  • 'Evidence linked to' as 'Placement'
  • 'Client-Specifiable' as 'No'.

For example, only these two Compliance groups will show under the Compliance tab of any Placements associated with the Worker Type:
